Sensor Technologies

ADS has been a pioneer in the development of Doppler flow monitoring sensors, beginning with our renowned Quadredundant ultrasonic depth sensor. When installed correctly and properly maintained, ADS sensors operate effectively in harsh sewer environments, offering accurate measurement and optimum uptime performance.

For most applications, ADS recommends three sensors:

  • Ultrasonic Depth This Quadredundant depth sensor mounts at the crown of the pipe and affords multiple depth measurements for maximum signal response and uptime. (Click on the link for specifications)
  • Peak Velocity This sensor has been designed and tested to accurately measure the peak Doppler shift of particles moving through fluid. It is installed under the flow below the minimum depth, and is hydrodynamically shaped to avoid fouling and to minimize head loss. (Click on the link for specifications)
  • Pressure Depth The ADS-designed pressure sensor is a hydrodynamically shaped differential pressure sensor available in three different ranges to measure the depth of water or wastewater. The sensor is primarily used to continue to measure depths above the face of the ADS Ultrasonic sensor. (Click on the link for specifications)

Accuracy Verifications – All sensors, when used with the ADS Model 3600 monitor or the ADS Model 4000 monitor, have recently been verified for accuracy under the EPAs Equipment Test and Verification (ETV) program. This was a component of the verification process for the two ADS systems tested. Both systems were found to meet and exceed the requirements for ETV conformity.

Certifications - SIRA Test & Certification Service and Factory Mutual Research have certified the Intrinsically Safe versions of the ADS sensors to meet North American and European directives for equipment that is to be installed in potentially explosive environments. These agencies have also certified the units to meet applicable requirements for Electromagnetic Compatibility (Emissions and Immunity). To meet European Union import requirements, sensors has been inspected and fully conform to all CE marking requirements as substantiated via a Declaration of Conformity.
