Initial Setup

Q1.  What software is needed to setup the TRITON+ monitor?
A1.  The ADS Qstart software is needed, and is available for download on the ADS Software Downloads page.  For further instructions regarding installing the Qstart software, download the Qstart Installation Guide, also on the software downloads page.

Configuration and Activation

Q2.  How should the TRITON+ be configured and activated?
A2.  All steps necessary for a successful configuration and activation of the TRITON+ are outlined in Chapter 6 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q3.  Can the TRITON+’s initial activation be done wirelessly?
A3.  No.  The monitor must be activated initially via direct, serial connection to the monitor, using the Serial option for the Connect parameter in Qstart.   Subsequent activations can occur wirelessly.

Q4.  How can the monitor be configured to send out alarms?
A4.  The TRITON+ can be configured to send out alarms directly from the monitor.  Use the Notification device in Qstart.  Further information on how to configure this device is available in Qstart’s online help or in Chapter 6 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q5.  What alarms does the TRITON+ support?
A5.  The TRITON+ supports two depth alarms (High_Level and High_High) as well as a flow loss alarm based on either depth or flow rate.  Further information on the configuration of these alarms is available in Chapter 6 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q6.  Does the TRITON+ support a dual rate allowing the monitor to take more frequent measurements during critical events?
A6.  Yes.  A dual data rate can be configured on the MLI device screen.  Users can specify the depth at which the monitor will switch from the normal measurement rate to the faster measurement rate based on a depth limit.

Q7.  Can the TRITON+ be configured to deliver data to ADS FlowView?
A7.  Yes.  The TRITON+ can be configured to deliver data to FlowView through the use of the Data Delivery device in Qstart.  Set the mode to FlowView and enter an Interval for the data delivery.  Enter the FlowView server IP address under the MLI device.  The server IP address is 64.14.232.177.

Q8.  Can the TRITON+ deliver data simultaneously to an FTP server and FlowView?
A8.  No.  The TRITON+ can only deliver to one or the other.  FTP delivery will disable cryouts to FlowView.

Q9.  Why is the TRITON+ unable to deliver files to the FTP server after configuration?
A9.  There are several possible causes for the failure to deliver.  The folder name configured on the Data Delivery device cannot have spaces in the name.  For example, TRITON Folder will not work, but TRITON_Folder will work.  Verify that there are no spaces in the folder name and activate the TRITON+ again to see if it successfully delivers files to the FTP server.  Other possibilities for this error could be that the FTP server is not configured to accept file delivery from the TRITON+’s IP address, or that the TRITON+ is set to Active for the delivery mode and needs to be set to Passive in the Data Delivery device.  ADS recommends using the Passive delivery mode.

Q10.  What is the difference between Active and Passive mode on the Data Delivery device in the FTP setup section?
A10.  The Active mode allows the monitor to set the data channel (port) for the FTP server to use; in the Passive mode, the FTP server tells the monitor which port to send the data over.  Most servers are configured to accept data in the Passive mode only.  Therefore, ADS recommends using this mode unless the FTP server does not support it.

Q11.  Can the TRITON+ deliver data via email?
A11.  No, it cannot.  However, the last four readings are delivered as part of email text for daily check-ins and alarm notifications.

Q12.  Can the TRITON+ be configured to respond to on-demand remote communication requests?
A12.  Yes.  On-demand, remote communication is available for monitors equipped with SIM cards having static IP addresses as long as the modem power is configured to be “on.”  Further information on configuring on-demand data collection is available in Chapter 6 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q13.  Can the TRITON+ be setup to automatically accommodate Daylight Savings time?
A13.  Yes, use the Daylight Saving Device to set the DST and Standard parameters.  This device needs to be updated each year to ensure the correct dates and times are downloaded to the monitor.

Q14.  Does the TRITON+ support analog and digital inputs and outputs?
A14.  Yes.  An ADS XIO device is required.  It can support up to 2 analog inputs, 2 analog outputs, 2 digital inputs, and 2 digital outputs.  Further information is available in Chapter 8 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q15.  Does the TRITON+ support Modbus polling?
A15.  Yes.  The TRITON+ supports Modbus RTU, ASCII, and TCP communications.  Either an ADS ExPac or XBUS device is required.  Further information is available in Chapter 9 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q16.  Where are the Modbus registers documented for the implementation of the Modbus polling feature?
A16.  Modbus registers are listed in Chapter 9 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.  This chapter also includes an explanation of the format used by ADS and how to configure the RTU to poll these registers.

Q17.  Does the TRITON+ support water quality sampling?
A17.  Yes.  The TRITON+ supports flow proportional and level actuated water quality sampling.  Further information is available in Chapters 3, 6, and Appendix E of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q18.  Can the TRITON+ monitor multiple pipes simultaneously?
A18.  Yes.  Up to two monitoring points can be configured on the TRITON+ monitor.  Further information on how to configure multiple monitoring points can be found in Chapter 6 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q19.  How many sensors does the TRITON+ support?
A19.  The TRITON+ supports four different sensors: Long Range Depth, Peak Combo, Smart Depth and Surface Combo.  The Long Range Depth and Smart Depth sensors measure level only; the Peak Combo and Surface Combo measure both depth and velocity.

Q20.  Can the TRITON+ record temperature?
A20.  Yes.  The TRITON+ can be configured to log water temperature as measured by the Peak Combo sensor and air temperature as measured by the Long Range Depth, Smart Depth, or Surface Combo sensors.  Further information can be found in Chapter 6 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q21.  How can the TRITON+ be deactivated?
A21.  Set the sampling rate to 0 minutes and the Deactivate function becomes available.

Monitor Installation

Q22.  What parts, supplies, tools, and equipment are needed to install the TRITON+?
A22.  The parts, supplies, tools, and equipment needed to install the monitor are detailed in Chapter 3 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q23.  What mounting options are available for the TRITON+?
A23.  The TRITON+ monitor can be installed using either an aluminum mounting bracket attached to the monitor and bolted to the manhole wall or rim, or by a hook connected to the monitor that attaches to a rung.  The part numbers are ADS p/n I40-0009 for the wall/rim mount, and ADS p/n 8000-0021 for the rung mount.  Details for both types of installations can be found in the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Antenna Installation

Q24.  How should the antenna be installed for the TRITON+ monitor?
A24.  Refer to Chapter 4 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual or view the “How to Install an Antenna for use with ADS Monitors” video for tools required and installation instructions.

Communication

Q25.  Can a user communicate remotely with a deactivated TRITON+?
A25.  No.  Once the monitor has been deactivated, users can no longer communicated remotely.  In order to reinitialize communications, it must be activated again with a direct serial connection.

Battery Life

Q26.  How long will a TRITON+ battery last?
A26.  The monitor’s battery can last, with a 15-minute sample rate, between 11 months to 15 months, depending on the frequency of the Data Delivery configuration, frequency of push communications, etc.

Q27.  Can the TRITON+ modem be configured to extend battery life?
A27.  Yes, once the user connects to the TRITON+, select Advanced and then update Modem Power Configuration.  Configure the modem on/off times.

Q28.  What is the low battery threshold for a TRITON+?
A28.  The low battery threshold is 7.5 volts.  It is recommended that the battery be changed within two weeks of receiving the low battery warning.

Miscellaneous

Q29.  How can ADS Customer Support be contacted?

Q30.  Does the TRITON+ support external power?

Q31.  Is the TRITON+ monitor considered Intrinsically Safe?
A31.  Yes, the TRITON+ meets Intrinsic Safety standards through ATEX, IECEx, and CSA.  For further information on this topic, view Chapter 1 of the TRITON+ Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual.

Q32.  How can the TRITON+’s firmware be updated, and where can the download be found?
